After the headaches of selection, tiring research on things that i was clueless about (like trade barriers.. how the hell am i suppose to noe about economics??), late nights doing presentation, meetings in school showing ppl my presentation, walking down the lane leading from J8 to RJ, going for Rmun briefing 3 times, then finally presenting my presentation to the RJ peeps, then adding ppl i dun noe on msn msngr, then getting added by strangers on msn msngr, meeting at mac's at J8 at unearthly hours, then finally getting to first day of conference and meeting ppl whom i first met on msn msngr, then scheming on how to pass a resolution without actually writing one, creating working papers, coming up with acronyms like FATA and DAO and WTF (World Trade Forum), writing resolutions, getting used to parlimentary procedures (Right to reply!), getting to be the first one to speak in ecosoc trade barriers, writing lil notes to everyone, writing notes to the Chair to ask to be on speakers' list, writing notes to ppl to ask them to yield time for me, debating with accomplished debaters, always not getting to be on the winning side, critisizing the resolution put forth by US, UK abnd China like crazy (that was honestly sinfully delicious), seeing the developing nations all come together againts the economic (and academic) superpowers and not let their resolution pass, seeing people get excited-to-the-extent-of-slapping-people over the discovery of huge diamonds in the falklands ("fork-lands" not "fark-lands"), and also seeing someone getting all excited and head over heels with a member of the pflug family, losing by allowing the resolution not authored by me to be passed, being the only person on the against list during the debate on the resolution, getting honorary mention for best diplomat, going for my first Dnd (yes, can you believe it?), wearing my dad's shirt and aviator shades (complete with a blinding degree) in a desperate attempt to look Retro, seeing someone hug someone and say "love you d**!" (names have been censored to protect the privacy of the ppl involved.. but we all noe who...), and dancing to uber loud music performed by some band, jumping around to those cool tunes (reminds me of convetntion!) in my dad's black leather shoes which made me go ouch! after that, saying sad goodbyes to all those exotic ppl (eg. philipines and peru and denmark[lot's of milk] and vatican from ecosoc trade barriers and many many more) and then leaving RJ walking that same lane for the last time, RMUN 2006 IS OVER!
Sigh.
That was one long, emo paragraph.
Finally, i won something at a competition. After ambarrassing defeats at the vj humans quiz and the nus geog quiz, FINALLY i get to bring home something. Honorary Mention for Best Diplomat. Even though it's just one peice of silver-coloured paper labelled a certificate, it really means lots to me. I think i did well, considering i did volunteer to be the first to deliver one of the many speeches i made in Ecosoc Trade Barriers. That in itself was an accomplishment in my opinion. For one of the rare times, i actually took the first step. I never have done that before; stepping out of comfort zone and stuff. And although this may sound insanely EGO, i congratulate myself for that. And i wanna thank Mr Khoo for inviting me to join this comp, all the Rmunners from VS for being supportive and Rmunners from other schools for playing such a good game.
Kudos to John Cheo for having made history by getting best delegate and best diplomat awards at the same time for championing Women's rights and getting everyone to be WEEF him.
And applauds to Calvin, Daniel and Ju Lian for getting honorary mentions as well.
And a big Well Done to all delegates from VS for putting so much effort and time into this.
Had fun. Met more exotic peeps. Got a prize. Was at the institution of the forefront of Singapore's Academic Realm (SAR) for four days in a row. What more can i ask for?
